If anyone were to stop and take a look at the Harts, they would see what most considered to be the perfect family. Thomas Hart was the president of a very prestigious and lucrative mortgage company, while his wife was the picture of sophisticated grace. Their match was seemingly made in heaven and would have been if it wasn't for Ashley's tendency to stray. She blamed it on how young they were when they were married, of course, and it was only because neither of them wanted the negative attention drawn to their family that they didn't file for divorce. Even when they realized that their second daughter wasn't even Thomas'.

It was for the sake of his pride and for both of their reputations that they agreed to keep that little detail to themselves and neither of them so much as batted an eyelash as his name was added to the birth certificate. From that moment on, Felicity was raise in the exact same fashion as both her older sister and the younger one that would follow closely behinder her. There was never any doubt that the three girls had the best of everything from clothing and accessories to their education and tutors. Their mother insisted that they each attended both attended etiquette classes and finishing school in addition to their regular studies and extracurriculars and when Felicity turned sixteen, following in the footsteps of her sister, mother and grandmother before her, she was given her own debutante ball and was formally introduced into the world she had been destined to be apart of since birth. It was the epitome of a charmed life and one she never questioned until the summer after her high school graduation.

Despite what their parents wanted the rest of the world to believe, the Hart girls knew that their parents didn't have the picture perfect marriage. There had been nights where either one or both of them had had too much to drink and those were the ones where the ugly truths came out, mainly ones about their mother's various infidelities. One night, tensions rose paricularly high between the pair for one reason or another and it was as she was passing by her parents' bedroom that Felicity learned the truth about her conception. Feeling hurt and betrayed, she stormed into the room and revealed that she'd heard what had been said, demanding the know the whole truth. It turned out that her real father was a man named Daniel Sullivan, an old associate of Thomas', and while his affair with her mother had been brief, it had also resulted in her. Hearing the whole story didn't help like she had thought it would and instead only seemed to make it worse (at least for the time being) and wanting to get as far away from both of them as she could, Felicity moved to Austin well before the start of her freshman year at the University of Texas. Not one to be overly vindictive, she allowed her parents to keep their lies, telling everyone that she simply wanted to become more familiar with the city before the start of the term.

Having never been truly away from her parents and her family before, moving away from them was definitely an eye-opening experience. For the first time in her life she had a chance to relax, to let her hair down and be herself without fretting about how it would reflect upon her family and their precious reputation. No one knew who she or who they were there and that was exactly what she had needed. For all of her naivety and impulsiveness, it wasn't until spring break of her freshman year that she made a choice that would truly impact the course of her life. On a whim she had chosen to visit Mexico with a group of girlfriends rather than go to New York City with her mother and sisters and it was there that she met him. It was only supposed to be for fun, going to the little cantina to tease and flirt with the men affliated with the local motorcycle club, but for Felicity, it would turn into something more. Somewhere in the midst of all the dancing, drinking and causual hooking up, a real connection had formed and before she knew what was happening, she was staying behind when the week was over. It wasn't something she had expected or planned on, but as she watched her friends pack up the car and drive back to Texas there were no feelings of regret or apprehension.

The phone call to her parents to inform them of her decision left much to be desired. Where her mother begged and pleaded for her to reconsider and come home, her father cursed and threatened - if she chose to stay there and turn her back on her family to become a part of that lifestyle, then he would cut her off completely. Never being one for ultimatums, his stance made her choice that much easier. It hurt, despite the rift that had grown between them ever since she learned that they had lied to her for most of her life, but it was her life and for once, she was going to decide what she wanted to do with it. She was settled and pregnant with their first child by the time she was twenty-one and their second by the time she was twenty-four. It took some time, but eventually Felicity was able to find her footing within her new lifestyle and her place within that world. It's not exactly the life she had always imagined herself having when she was a little girl, but it's the life that she wouldn't trade for anything.
